Hall of Fame
GARY NELSON, class
of 1963

An Original
Coach Aido Buonaguidi called Gary
Nelson the dream player. He played two years for the Dynamiters. He was on GHS
polo's first year in 1961 and was the team captain in 1962. He was like a coach in
the water, often leading the team in drills at practice and providing the coaches
with strategy for the games. Gary was a classmate of GHS legend Pat Navolanic, and
like Navolanic died just a few years after high school. He was killed in 1966 during
the Vietnam War and in his memory, an award is given annually to the water polo team's
most inspirational player.
