Frank Wykoff- Track, GUHS class of 1928
High school- State Champion 100 and 200 yard dash, led GUHS to the State Championship, Named State High School
Track Athlete of the Year
College- won NCAA 100 yard dash titles in 1930-31 and AAU titles in 1928 and 1931; ran his first official 9.4 time
at 100 yards in 1930.
Gold Medal winner on the U.S. 400 meter relay in three different Olympics (1928, 1932, 1936)

Floyd "Babe"
Herman- Baseball, GUHS class of
1920
High school- Named Southern California's most outstanding baseball player and California State baseball player
of the year. He was a five-sport star at Glendale High School in 1920, and in one track meet he won nine events, went over to the baseball diamond and hit a grand slam and, oh yes, played in
a basketball game that night.
Major League Baseball- Outstanding player for the Brooklyn Dodgers.
Named to the All-Time Dodger team as an outfielder
Current Dodger Batting Records still held by Babe Herman (after more than 75 years!)-
Batting Average: .393 (1930), On-base percentage: .455 (1930) , Slugging Percentage: .678 (1930), Hits: 241 (1930),

Dwight Stones- Track, GHS class of 1971
High school- State Champion and State
record holder in high jump
College- All-American at UCLA, Long Beach State. 1972, 1976, 1984 Olympic Games, Bronze Medals in 1972 and 1976.
Eleven-time National Champion. Established the World High Jump record in 1976 with a jump of 7 feet, 7 and a quarter
inches.

Frankie Albert- Football, Basketball, Baseball, GHS class of 1938
High school- Southern California and State Football Player of the Year after leading the Dynamiters to the CIF
championship. Led GUHS Baseball to the CIF championship.
College- Led Stanford to the 1940 National Championship. At
Stanford University, one of College football's WOW BOYS,
twice named All-America. Finished fourth place in the Heisman Trophy voting as a junior
and third place during his senior season.
Starred in the Rose Bowl, leading Stanford to victory. Played for and coached the San Francisco 49ers where he
was named All-Pro.

Duane Bickett- Football, Basketball, Track, GHS class of 1981

Gene Mako- Tennis, GHS class of 1933
Gene Mako was the 1934 NCAA singles and doubles champion while lettering at USC for 3 years (1934-36-37). He won
2 Wimbledon (1937-38) and 3 U.S. Open (2 in 1936, 1 in 1938) doubles titles. In 1936, he won the regular and mixed
doubles titles at the U.S. Open.

Jenny Dalton- Volleyball, Basketball, Softball, Track, Badminton, GHS
class of 1992
High school- All-CIF and Pacific League Player of the Year in volleyball, basketball and softball. League champion
in the shot put.
CIF record in career home runs in softball.
College- University of Arizona- 3-time first
team All-American in 1994, 1995,
1996, helped Wildcats to three National Championships. During her senior season at Arizona, Dalton won National
Player of the Year honors by batting .469 with 25 home runs and 109 RBIs.

NCAA champion while playing at Stanford University.

John Block- Basketball, GHS class of 1961
High school- All-CIF in basketball
College- Record setting scorer at USC where he set 10 school records. He was team captain for the Trojans in 1966
and team MVP in 1965 and 1966. He was named to the All-America team in 1966 where he led the Pacific Coast Conference
in scoring averaging 25.2 points per game. He scored 30 or more points nine times
in his college career and still holds the USC single scoring record with 45 points.
Block also holds the USC record for most free throws made in a game when he made 21 out of 21 attempts in a 1966
game. He played in the NBA for 10 years and was an NBA All-Star in 1973.

Bob Dillinger- Football, Basketball, Baseball, GHS class of 1936
Dillinger led the American League in hits in 1948 and in stolen bases three consecutive years (1947-49). After
batting .292 in 1951, Dillinger retired at age 33.

Mark Chatfield- Swimming, GHS class of 1971
High school- School record holder in every individual race (8 of them). CIF champion in 200-yard I.M. (1:54.0)
and 100-yard breaststroke (58.0). Ranked third in the world in the 100-meter breaststroke as a senior in high school.
As a senior at GHS he broke the national high school record in the 100-yard breaststroke and was ranked as the fastest high school swimmer in America in both the 200-yard IM and the 100-yard breaststroke. He was ranked second in the nation in the 100-yard backstroke.
College- All-America at USC. He was the 1971 Pan-Am Games gold medal winner in 100-meter breaststroke. At the 1972
Olympic Games he broke the Olympic record in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:05.89), missing the World Record by
less than a tenth of a second.

Lee Balkin- Track, GHS class of 1979
High school- CIF and State champion high jump. Still holds the State Championship Meet record for the high jump
(7 feet, 3 and a quarter inches). Best jump after high school was 7 feet, 7 inches to finish second in the nation
in 1987.
College- All-American at UCLA.

Delos Thurber, Track,
GHS class of 1934
High School- CIF and State champion in the high jump.
College- 3-time All-American in the high jump at USC, 1936, 1937, 1938. Olympic Bronze medalist in 1936.

Kelly Henry- Tennis, GHS class of 1980
High school- CIF champion in tennis for 3 years (1978, 1979, 1980)
College- 4-time All-American at USC (1981, 1982, 1983 and in 1984 was an All-American in both singles and doubles).
Played on USC's 1983 National Championship team. Henry played professionally as doubles partner to Tracy Austin.

Kevin Witt- Water Polo, Swimming, GHS class of 1999
High school- Twice named to the high school All-America water polo team, CIF water polo Division III co-Player
of the Year in 1998.
College- Three time NCAA All-American
at Loyola Marymount University- 2000, 2001, 2002. Witt was the NCAA tournament's leading scorer in 2001.
Currently is a member
of USA National Water Polo Team.

Bob Reinhard- Football, GHS class of 1938
High school- All-CIF in football. Teammate of GHS legend Frankie Albert and helped lead Dynamiters to the 1937
CIF football championship.
College- All-American at UC Berkeley, member of University of California Athletic Hall of Fame. He was named a college All-American in 1940 and 1941 for
the Golden Bears.
Played professionally with the Los Angeles Dons of the AAFL and the Los Angeles Rams.

Darrell Sutherland- Basketball, Baseball, GHS class of 1959
High school- CIF Player of the Year in basketball, leading GHS to the CIF championship. All-CIF in baseball as
a pitcher.
College- Captain of the Stanford University basketball team. An All-Pac-8 Conference selection.
Played Major League Baseball with the New York Mets.

Tom Riach- Basketball, GHS class
of 1947
High school- Southern California High School Basketball Player of the Year
College- All-American at USC. Conference Player of the Year 1951
Riach was captain of the 1951 Southern California basketball team and averaged 8.3 points per game in the 1950-51
season and led the Trojans to the Pacific Coast Conference Southern Division championship. He lettered in three
seasons in basketball and baseball at USC, and was a seventh-round selection by Baltimore in the 1951 NBA draft.
After college, Riach played briefly in the Chicago White Sox organization and served two years in the Army. He
then began a career as a developer of residential and commercial properties. He was married to his wife, Joan,
for 53 years.

Brett Miller- Football, GHS class of 1976
Played football at the University of Iowa, where at 6' 7", 292 lbs., he was a standout offensive lineman.
NFL- Played 10 seasons in the NFL. Six with the Atlanta Falcons, one season with the San Diego Chargers, three
seasons with the New York Jets

Tom Dose- Basketball, GHS class of 1960
High school- CIF Player of the Year, led GHS to the CIF championship.
College- Top player at Stanford University where he was named to the college All-America basketball team in 1963
and 1964. Named to Stanford University Athletics Hall of Fame.
Drafted in the 3rd round by the Los Angeles Lakers in 1964.

Rich Grande- Basketball, GHS class of 1985
High school- Unanimously selected as the CIF Player of the Year after he captained the Dynamiters' to a perfect
28-0 season in 1985. The season was capped off with a win in the CIF championship game against Compton Dominguez.
College- Team captain at USC in 1988 and 1989.

Dave Reed- Tennis, GHS class of 1960
High school- In 3 years at GHS he lost only one match. That loss came in the CIF championship game as a sophomore.
His junior and senior years he was the undefeated CIF champion.
College- Starred at UCLA with tennis legend Arthur Ashe. UCLA won the national team championship in 1965. Reed
placed second in the country in doubles.

High school- Star on the Dynamiters' basketball and baseball teams. Was All-CIF in baseball
College-Standout on USC's baseball team.
Major League Baseball, played 3 years with the Cleveland Indians. Played third base in the 1954 World Series.

Chuck Arrobio- Football, GHS class of 1961
High school- All-CIF lineman on the football team.
College- 6' 4" 250 lbs. Named first team All-America tackle while playing at USC in 1965. He was team co-captain
with Heisman Trophy winner Mike Garrett.

Scott Greenwood- Swimming, Water Polo, GHS class of 1996
High school- CIF finalist in the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyles. School records in both events.
College- Swam two years at USC and then transferred to UC Berkeley where he was a two-time All-American. Ranked
among the top 25 in the world in the 50-meter freestyle. Qualified for the Olympic trials. He was part of the national
champion 400-yard freestyle relay in 2000 that broke the NCAA record. In 2000 he was also part of two relays that
were Pacific-10 conference champions (200 and 400-yard freestyle relays)

Gary Sutherland was a Major League Second Baseman and Shortstop for 13 seasons from 1966-1978.
After attending the University of Southern California, where he played under legendary coach Rod Dedeaux, Sutherland played for the Philadelphia Phillies (1966-68), Montreal Expos (1969-71), Houston Astros (1972-73), Detroit Tigers (1974-76), Milwaukee Brewers (1976), San Diego Padres (1977) and St. Louis Cardinals (1978). He currently works in the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim front office. Sutherland had a career high 26 doubles with the Expos in 1969. His best season all-around season was 1974 in Detroit, when he was third in the American League with 619 at bats. His 157 hits in 1974 was also the team-high for the Detroit Tigers that year. In 13 seasons he played in 1,031 Games and had 3,104 At Bats, 308 Runs, 754 Hits, 109 Doubles, 10 Triples, 24 Home Runs, 239 RBI, 11 Stolen Bases, 207 Walks, .243 Batting Average, .291 On-base percentage, .308 Slugging Percentage, 955 Total Bases, 46 Sacrifice Hits, 18 Sacrifice Flies and 20 Intentional Walks.

the Rose Bowl Game MVP
and led USC to the national championship in 1939. He was an all-American quarterback for the Trojans who was inducted
